Alvis FWD

Automobiles

The Alvis FWD, also called the 12/75, was made by Alvis from 1928 to 1930 and was one of the first production road cars with front-wheel drive. It grew from the front-drive experience Alvis had gained in motorsport since 1925 and was meant to replace the 12/50 SD, TG and TH for a younger, more technical buyer. The four-cylinder overhead-camshaft engine of 1,482 cc made 50 bhp, or up to 75 bhp with a supercharger, giving about 136 km/h, and all four wheels had independent suspension on quarter-elliptic transverse leaf springs. The FA and FD had a short wheelbase and the FB and FE a long one, but sales fell short and it was dropped.
