Alvis Firebird

Automobiles

The Alvis Firebird was a British touring car made by Alvis in Coventry between 1935 and 1939, developed from the Firefly, of which 449 were produced as a two-door tourer, a 2+2 sports tourer, a two-door drophead coupe and a four-door saloon. It was powered by an 1,842 cc four-cylinder overhead-valve Alvis engine, with an aluminium body on an ash wood frame and an all-synchromesh gearbox. As with other Alvis cars it was built as a rolling chassis and sent to Cross and Ellis to be finished to the customer requirements, so every Firebird is different. World War II halted Alvis car production in 1939, and a German bomb destroyed the car factory in 1940.
