Alvis Dingo

Automobiles

The Alvis Dingo was a prototype military scout car built in 1938 by the Alvis Car and Engineering Company for the British War Office. It was made for comparison trials against vehicles from the Birmingham Small Arms Company and from Morris Motors. It had a four-cylinder engine and a Bren light machine gun. The War Office did not choose it, because the BSA vehicle had a lower centre of gravity and a lower cost, but the Dingo name lived on, since it was adopted for the BSA design that went into production as the Daimler Dingo.
