The second TL, called the 3.2 TL, was built on the American Accord platform in Marysville, Ohio, and dropped the five-cylinder car. Its 3.2 litre VTEC V6 produced 225 horsepower and drove through an automatic with SportShift, and it was exported to Japan as the Inspire and Saber. A five-speed automatic arrived for 2000, but that gearbox proved unreliable and led to extended warranties. A Type-S trim with 260 horsepower came in 2002.
