The CX-50 Hybrid went on sale in Canada for the 2025 model year, but a March 2025 cross border trade dispute led Canada to impose a 25 percent surtax on non compliant American assembled cars, and Mazda Canada suspended all factory imports of the CX-50 from 12 May 2025. Mazda moved the Canadian share of the Alabama plant's output to the American market. It is powered by a 2.5 liter hybrid with the Toyota Hybrid System.
