Car and Driver listed the CX-50 as one of five compact SUVs on its Editors' Choice list in 2024. On 9 July 2024 Mazda updated the CX-50 for the 2025 model year in the United States, making the hybrid powertrain available on the Preferred, Premium and Premium Plus trims and dropping the base Turbo trim. The CX-50 was still built in Alabama and in China by Changan Mazda. The CX-50 has a lower roof than the CX-5 for easier access to roof racks, despite the greater ground clearance.
