In 2023 the ND MX-5 was in its ninth year of production, still built at Hiroshima as a lightweight two seater and offered with the Retractable Fastback beside the soft top. The car was the basis for the Fiat 124 Spider and Abarth 124 Spider of the same generation, and kept the original goals of the design while adding technology with each revised version. The roadster was built at Mazda's Hiroshima plant. It was created under the design credo of unity of horse and rider.
