For 2020 the Crosstrek received Subaru's SI-Drive powertrain management system, first available on the Forester and WRX with a CVT, and an auto start stop system was added. Starting in the middle of 2020, for the 2021 model year, Subaru began selling the Crosstrek with aesthetic tweaks and a new trim level. Sales in the United States have been much stronger than its predecessor, the Outback Sport. All generations of the Crosstrek are raised versions of the Subaru Impreza hatchback.
