The final Chevrolet Impala was built at the Detroit Hamtramck assembly plant on February 27, 2020, ending a run of the nameplate that began in 1958. General Motors had reversed an earlier decision and planned to idle the Detroit Hamtramck and Oshawa plants and retire the nameplate, and kept the car in production with the idling extended to 2020. The Impala had been among the better selling American made automobiles in the United States over its long history.
