The Bongo Brawny name was reintroduced in April 2019 in Japan as a badge engineered fifth generation Toyota HiAce. The Bongo of 2019 was in its twenty first year of the fourth generation, the last year of the cabover van and truck designed in house by Mazda, which was discontinued in 2020. It also formed the basis for the long running Kia Bongo range. The Bongo was also known as the Ford Econovan and Eunos Cargo, and it has been built with rear, middle and front mounted engines.
