In 2019 the Explorer received one last update before its redesign: XLT models no longer had leather seats but ActiveX synthetic leather, and an XLT Desert Copper Package, priced at an extra 1,840 dollars, added an ebony interior with copper inserts and 20 inch polished wheels. The sixth generation debuted on 9 January 2019 ahead of that year's Detroit show, so the two generations overlapped. A Limited Luxury Package was also offered on the Limited.
