The X7 was officially unveiled on 17 October 2018, with pre orders taken online, after BMW had previewed it with the Concept X7 iPerformance at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. Production of the X7 started in 2018 at the BMW US Manufacturing Company plant in Greer, South Carolina, on the CLAR platform shared with the G05 X5. It was the largest and, after the 7 Series, the second most expensive vehicle in the BMW range.
