The G14 8 Series was announced on 15 June 2018, with sales commencing from November 2018. The production version was officially unveiled at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and the convertible G14 launched in November 2018. Production commenced in late 2018 at the BMW plant at Dingolfing, Germany, and the second generation 8 Series coupe was launched in Thailand in December 2018. It was built at Dingolfing and was the first 8 Series for nearly twenty years.
