In 2017 the ND MX-5 won the Red Dot Best of the Best award for product design and Auto Express named it Roadster of the Year. It was on the Car and Driver 10Best list for the second year of its 2016 to 2019 run, and was offered both as the soft top roadster and the Retractable Fastback with a rigid roof. A longitudinal truss called the Powerplant Frame joins the engine to the differential. In Japan it was marketed as the Mazda Roadster, and in the United States as the MX-5 Miata.
