On 22 April 2016 Mazda built its one millionth MX-5, which toured several cities where the first 240 people could sign it. The ND won the 2016 World Car of the Year and World Car Design of the Year, the UK Car of the Year, the Daily Telegraph Car of the Year and Wheels magazine's Car of the Year, and the MX-5 was on the Car and Driver 10Best list from 2016 to 2019. It was created under the design credo of unity of horse and rider.
