The Bongo of 2017 was in its nineteenth year of the fourth generation, a cabover van and truck, the last in house designed Bongo, sold in Japan. The Bongo Brawny nameplate would be reintroduced in April 2019 in Japan as a badge engineered fifth generation Toyota HiAce, while the Bongo itself ended in 2020. It also formed the basis for the long running Kia Bongo range. The Bongo was also known as the Ford Econovan and Eunos Cargo, and it has been built with rear, middle and front mounted engines.
