A new diesel powered Cruze became available in 2017, using the 1.6 liter turbo diesel also found in the 2018 Equinox, paired to either a nine speed automatic or a six speed manual transmission. The five door hatchback version of the North American Cruze, unveiled in January 2016 at the North American International Auto Show, went on sale in late 2016 as a 2017 model. The diesel engine was the same 1.6 liter unit that Chevrolet also used in the Equinox.
