In 2017 the G11 and G12 continued as the sixth generation 7 Series, in short and long wheelbase versions and including the 740e and 740Le plug in hybrid models, which had been available since 2016 under BMW's strategy of introducing plug in hybrid variants for all future car models. They were produced at the Dingolfing plant. Sales had started in October 2015 and the G11 was produced at Dingolfing, in its second full year on the market.
