The E89 Z4 ended its production in 2016, the last year of the second generation, which had run from 2009. The Z4 E89 was succeeded by the G29 in 2018, with a gap of two years in which BMW had no Z4 on sale, as the new car was developed with Toyota, which would use the same platform for the Supra built by the same Austrian plant. No second generation Z4 cars were built after 2016. The Regensburg plant that had been enlarged for the Z4 turned to other models.
