In 2016 the F25 X3 continued as BMW's compact luxury crossover, built at Spartanburg in South Carolina since 2010 and in its sixth year of production, with the facelift of 2014 and the xDrive and sDrive models in several engines. The Mercedes GLK, its rival, was renamed GLC in the same year, while the next X3 generation was still a year from its debut. It remained a mainstay of the BMW range and sold in many markets worldwide.
