For the 2016 model year the MDX swapped its six-speed automatic for a ZF nine-speed with closer ratios, a gearbox 66 pounds lighter that changed gears 25 percent faster. A push-button selector took the place of the console lever. Acura also upgraded the SH-AWD system with a twin-clutch rear differential that weighed 19 pounds less, of the same kind found in the TLX, and the 3.5 litre V6 stayed, as did the choice of front-wheel drive or SH-AWD in the United States.
