A USB input was added to the United States Mazda2 for the 2013 model year, one of the few changes during the car's run there, where it was sold in Sport and Touring trims. In 2013 Mazda also built a range extender test car from the electric Mazda2, with a 0.33 liter rotary engine, a lithium ion battery and a 75 kilowatt motor, which would have doubled the range of the Demio EV. This was the last year of the second generation, before the Kodo styled car arrived.
