The 2013 CX-5 was the first model year in North America, where it had debuted at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November 2011 with a 155 horsepower 2.0 liter Skyactiv-G four. It earned Good crash test ratings from the IIHS in four categories but only Marginal in the small overlap test, which Mazda then fixed with design changes, and it was a finalist for the 2013 Green Car of the Year. Locally assembled cars went on sale in Malaysia in June.
