The Explorer Sport went on sale in June 2012 as part of the 2013 model year, with a blackened exterior, stiffened chassis and suspension, larger brakes and the 3.5 liter twin turbo EcoBoost V6 rated at 365 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque. At the time it was the only version offered with a combined four wheel drive and EcoBoost option, and no front drive Sport version was offered. The Sport used a stiffened chassis and suspension with larger brakes.
