For the 2012 model year, V8 models were updated to use the 65RFE six speed automatic transmission. A 3.0 liter turbocharged diesel V6 developed and built by Fiat Powertrain Technologies and VM Motor was offered in export markets by mid 2011. The 2012 Grand Cherokee continued with the Quadra Trac I, Quadra Trac II and Quadra Drive II four wheel drive systems, and in 2012 a Swedish magazine reported a failed avoidance maneuver test.
