The E87 five door hatchback finished its production run in 2011, after the F20 1 Series was introduced and the E81 and E87 hatchbacks began to be phased out. The E82 coupe and E88 convertible kept going in a new form of range, and would last until 2013 when they were replaced by the F22 and F23 2 Series. In this year the second generation F20 five door hatchback replaced the E87 as the main 1 Series model, as BMW changed over.
