The Galant had also been available in Canada and Mexico until the 2010 and 2009 model years respectively. The ninth generation was in its seventh year in 2010, the last years of the Galant in North America, built at the Normal, Illinois, plant with a 2.4 liter four cylinder engine and a 3.8 liter V6, and sold as a front wheel drive mid size sedan. The name Galant comes from the French word for chivalrous. The Galant evolved from a compact sedan into a mid-size car over its life.
