The Galant was restyled for a third time in this generation in 2009, with the 2009 Galant launching in February 2008. A four cylinder Sport Edition was added for the 2009 model year. The Galant had been available in Mexico until the 2009 model year, and returned to Canada in 2009 with the facelifted model, built in Normal, Illinois. The name Galant comes from the French word for chivalrous. The Galant evolved from a compact sedan into a mid-size car over its life.
