In 2010 Ford Australia celebrated 50 years of continuous Falcon production, from 1960 to date, with a special XR50 model released to commemorate the occasion, which marked the start of the FG update. In June 2010 new emissions regulations meant that the iconic 5.4 litre V8 engine had to be discontinued. At the end of 2010 the Falcon wagon was permanently discontinued, and the last petrol engined BF was built on 30 June. The Falcon was a full size car made by Ford Australia.
