During March 2009 the Grandis was cancelled in the Japanese market. It was updated in Malaysia in July 2009. The Grandis of 2009 was in its seventh year as a seven seat MPV, still sold in Asia, Europe and Oceania, and winning Best MPV at the Bangkok International Motor Show. The Grandis was also marketed as the Mitsubishi Space Wagon in Thailand. The exterior styling was based loosely on designer Olivier Boulay's earlier Mitsubishi Space Liner concept.
