For 2009 a hybrid variant of the Dodge Durango and its brother the Chrysler Aspen was introduced, using the GM designed two stage hybrid system and adding two 87 horsepower electric motors to the 5.7 liter V8, for a total system output of around 400 horsepower. All Durango and Aspen hybrids came standard with 4 wheel drive. The 2009 model year was the last of the second generation, which was discontinued when Newark Assembly closed.
