The facelifted E90 and E91 were in their first model year as 2009 models with the xDrive naming for all wheel drive. In motorsport, Colin Turkington won the 2009 British Touring Car Championship drivers title in an E90 320si, after BMW works driver Andy Priaulx had won the World Touring Car Championship in the same model in 2006 and 2007. The saloon and estate that year were sold in facelift form.
