For the 2008 model year the first generation Honda Pilot added two new trims: the VP, for Value Package, replaced the LX as the base trim, and the SE, for special edition, went in between the EX and EX-L trims. It was the final model year of the first generation, since Honda introduced the bigger second generation Pilot as a prototype at the North American International Auto Show in January 2008, with sales opening on May 22, 2008.
