In late 2008 the E65 7 Series was replaced by the F01 7 Series, which had been presented at Moscow's Red Square on 8 July 2008. The E65 and E66 thus ended seven years of production, the first 7 Series with iDrive, a design made to move the company's image into the future in the opinion of BMW's board. The first 7 Series with iDrive had been launched in Germany in November 2001, and its replacement was shown in Moscow in July 2008.
