The Freelander 2 went on sale in 2007, retaining the Freelander name in Europe and sold in North America as the LR2 from 2007, after the model had debuted at the 2006 show. It was a new vehicle on Ford's EUCD platform, built at Halewood rather than at Solihull, with an all-new engine range including a Volvo 3.2-litre straight-six petrol engine and PSA's 2.2-litre common-rail turbodiesel, and a version of Terrain Response from the Discovery 3.
