From 2005 to 2008 a localized version of the Galant called the Mitsubishi 380 was manufactured in Australia for the Australian and New Zealand markets. The ninth generation Galant was in its second year in the United States, built at Normal, Illinois, with front wheel drive, a 2.4 liter four and 3.8 liter V6, and the Taiwanese Grunder was on sale beside it. The name Galant comes from the French word for chivalrous. The Galant evolved from a compact sedan into a mid-size car over its life.
