The ninth generation Galant, announced in New York in April 2003, went on sale for the 2004 model year. Taiwan was one of the first regions outside the Americas to market it, with the Galant Grunder launched in December 2004 with a unique front end. The ninth generation was built at Normal, Illinois, and sold in North America with a 2.4 liter four and a 3.8 liter V6. The Galant evolved from a compact sedan into a mid-size car over its life.
