For 2006 the DeVille nameplate was retired, when the model line was carried forward with minor revisions as the Cadillac DTS, the DeVille Touring Sedan, using a nomenclature adopted by the Cadillac STS and CTS. The 2005 car was thus the last DeVille, an eighth generation sedan built on the G platform with a Northstar V8 that had started production in August 1999. The 2005 car closed the DeVille name, which had stood since 1959 as a series of its own.
