A supercharged SS model was added for 2004 and 2005, and the naturally aspirated SS continued as well, but was relabeled as LT for the 2005 model year. The Monte Carlo had been the largest two door model produced by an American automaker since the Grand Prix coupe was discontinued after the 2002 model year. It still represented Chevrolet in stock car racing, as it had since 1995, and the Super Sport name had returned for 2000 in place of the Z34.
