The second generation Avensis was launched in February 2003 with production starting on 6 January, and in Japan in October 2003 as the replacement for the Vista. In 2003 it became the first Japanese vehicle to receive a five star Euro NCAP rating under the redone tests and the first vehicle sold in Europe with a knee airbag. This was the first model year of the Toyota Avensis (second generation, T250), 2003 to 2008, which took over from the Toyota Avensis (first generation, T220); the 2004 model year follows it. Model year pages for the Toyota Avensis run from 1997 to 2018.
