After the first Land Rover G4 Challenge, held in 2003, G4 Edition Defenders went on sale in the competition's distinctive Tangiers orange as well as yellow, silver and black, as 90 and 110 4x4s with an A-bar at the front, a roll cage, side steps and spotlights. The X-Tech special edition returned for a second model year with better equipment, including wing protector plates and air conditioning. The Td5 was still the engine across the range.
