An Eddie Bauer trim package was introduced for the Excursion for 2003, differing from the Limited mainly in its appearance. During 2003 production Ford replaced the 7.3 litre diesel with a Navistar built 6.0 litre turbodiesel Power Stroke V8, and a five speed automatic went with that engine. Ford made it at its Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville alongside the F-Series Super Duty. The Excursion was a heavy duty Ford sport utility vehicle built on the Super Duty truck chassis.
