The S-Series ended with the 2002 model year and was replaced by the Saturn Ion for the 2003 model year. It was marketed in three generations from the fall of 1990 for the 1991 model year through the end of the 2002 model year, with the model changes taking place for the 1997 and 2000 model years, and was built on a Z body spaceframe platform developed in house at Saturn.
