In August 2002, anticipating stricter emissions standards, the turbocharged Town Box RX switched from the highly tuned 4A30 engine to a single cam, 12 valve, intercooled and turbocharged version of the 3G83 engine also fitted to the naturally aspirated versions, with claimed power still at 64 PS but torque significantly lower, at 86 N m. The Town Box was a kei car of mid engine layout. In Japan the Town Box was sold at Mitsubishi dealers as a kei wagon.
