The Libero of 2002 was the Libero Cargo, the commercial van version of the Libero that Mitsubishi kept in production after the wagon ended in 2001, with the 1.3 liter and 1.5 liter 12 valve engines with three valves per cylinder. The carburetor engine version was still on sale, which made it the last Japanese car with a carburetor, and its successor was to be the Lancer Cargo. The name Libero is Italian for free, chosen for a versatile car with a wide range of action.
