The MX-5 was in the second year of the updated NB2 in 2002, with the restyled front and rear ends and the variable valve timing 1.8 liter engine of 142 horsepower. Mazda introduced various special editions throughout the whole run of the NB, and the car stayed a simple two seater built at the Hiroshima plant, sold in the United States as the Miata and in Japan as the Roadster. In Japan it was sold as the Roadster, having been the Eunos Roadster before.
