From the 2002 model year the Z06's power rose to 405 horsepower through a larger air intake, stiffer valve springs, lighter valves and a freer flowing exhaust. A slightly modified 50th Anniversary Edition Corvette paced the Indianapolis 500 in May 2002. The C5-R racing car repeated its one two win at Le Mans in 2002 and also dominated the GTS class in the American Le Mans Series. That was a gain of twenty horsepower for the Z06 over the 385 horsepower of 2001.
