The Galaxy was facelifted in August 2000 with new exterior and interior styling, including a new dashboard and the New Edge design language of the Ford range of that period. The updated models offered new trims and kept the Volkswagen sourced 2.8 litre VR6 and 1.9 TDI engines. The Galaxy was a seven seat people carrier that Ford built for the European market, sharing its platform with the Mondeo in its later forms. It was slotted between the Tourneo Connect and the Tourneo Custom in the Ford range, and was the first Ford brand people carrier made outside North America.
