The Excursion was introduced for the 2000 model year on 30 September 1999, with no direct predecessor in the Ford truck range. Popular Science called it the biggest sport utility on the planet, and it was the most successful year with nearly 69,000 sold. It used a 5.4 litre V8, a V10 or a 7.3 litre diesel. The Excursion was a heavy duty Ford sport utility vehicle built on the Super Duty truck chassis. Ford made it at its Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville alongside the F-Series Super Duty.
