The eighth generation LeSabre was introduced in March 1999 using General Motors' G platform, which GM continued to call the H platform, and the 2000 model was the first of that generation. It was manufactured at Detroit Hamtramck Assembly and Lake Orion Assembly in Michigan. Of the four nameplates introduced in 1959, the LeSabre nameplate lasted the longest. The 2000 LeSabre was introduced in March 1999, and built in Michigan at two plants.
